Dashcams come in all kinds of types and designs, but what does a decent dashcam actually cost? The price of a dashcam depends mainly on the brand, quality and functionality of the dashcam. In addition, a dashcam from a well-known brand usually costs a bit more than an unbranded dashcam and also. Moreover, there are some accessories to make installation and use necessary and easier. You can get a good dashcam from as little as €50. We usually recommend not opting for a dashcam under €50. At Kruidvat and Action, dashcams are sometimes offered for €20 or €30. These might work fine for a while, but you probably won't be able to recognise people and license plates on the videos. From around €50, dashcams become of considerably better (image) quality. In the past, we have had some dashcams in this price range in the range but due to recurring problems we stopped selling them. Cheap = expensive applies in this case.

The average price of a dashcam is around €100 to €150. In the price range from €100 upwards, you have a dashcam with good image quality and also extra features such as Wifi and GPS. The dashcams can usually be expanded with accessories such as a continuous power supply or rear camera, which of course involve extra costs. A dashcam can cost much more, for example Vantrue and Gnet's 4K dashcams cost between €300 and €400 and BlackVue's prices run even higher. In general, dashcams above €100 do not necessarily improve in quality. Dashcams in the price range from €200 often come very complete, making them a bit more expensive by default. With Gnet and BlackVue, dashcams cost a bit more because they have more extensive software and support Cloud, for example. You also pay a bit for the design and brand recognition. You can compare it to an iPhone that costs a lot more (but is not necessarily better) than a Huawei or Oppo phone.
