A dashcam can be attached or hung in the car in various ways. Most dashcams are fixed to the windscreen with a suction cup or sticker attachment, but other types of holders are also available. Each type of holder has its own pros and cons.
Perhaps the best-known - but not the most common - way to mount a dashcam is with a suction cup. A suction cup mount works in the same way as former (TomTom) navigation systems and many current phone holders. With a suction cup mount, you press a rubber or silicone holder onto the windscreen, which you then ‘suck’ onto the windscreen using a rotary mechanism.
The main advantage of a suction cup mount is that you can easily remove the dashcam from the car and use it in multiple vehicles. A disadvantage is that a suction cup mount can become brittle with prolonged use and therefore lose its suction. In addition, a suction cup mount is more sensitive to vibrations and you can only mount it on the windscreen or another smooth surface - not on the dashboard, for instance. The most common type of mounting is with sticker mounting. With this type of mounting, the dashcam holder is firmly - and more or less permanently - stuck to the windscreen with a double-sided sticker. In turn, the dashcam can be slid in and out of the holder so that it can be easily removed from the car.
The main advantage of a sticker mount is that it usually sits more firmly on the windscreen than a suction cup mount. In addition to its sturdiness, a sticker attachment is often more compact than a suction cup attachment. A disadvantage of a sticker attachment is that you cannot easily remove the holder from the windscreen. To be able to use the dashcam in multiple vehicles, you will therefore need an extra holder in most cases. View all dashcams with sticker mount here.
In addition to suction cup and sticker mounts for standard dashcams, there are dashcams that need to be mounted in a specific way. Mirror dashcams, for example, are slid over the interior mirror and then fastened at the back with rubber brackets. With Motor dashcams, as with most Truck dashcams, the separate cameras are usually attached to the outside of the body with screws i.c.w. double-sided tape.
For 2CH dashcams with rear camera, the rear camera is often mounted on the outside on the bumper or under the spoiler with a double-sided sticker or screws. It can also be mounted on the rear window or on the headliner of the car.
