A professional dashcam differs from other dashcams in a few ways. For business use, dashcams are usually used professionally for Fleet management. Here, the dashcam is connected to the internet and the images are stored in the Cloud so they can be viewed from a central point. The built-in GPS in professional dashcams also allows the location of vehicles to be tracked. By no means all dashcams have this capability.

Because in professional use, many different drivers can have access to the dashcam, some measures are taken in professional dashcams to prevent this. For example, the SD card and power supply cannot simply be removed from the dashcam. Sometimes special Tamper proof cases are also available to prevent full access to the dashcam. This can only be opened with a special (supplied) key.

A professional dashcam is preferably connected with a hardwire kit at the fuse box of the car or truck and not via a cigarette power supply. This method of connection is better because it cannot then be easily disconnected by a driver. In addition, this way of connection gives you more options on your dashcam such as automatic parking mode and battery protection. Professional dashcams already come with such a hardwire kit as standard. A cigarette power supply is sometimes optionally available for Plug&Play use.

Currently, the only dashcam brands with extended Cloud capability are Gnet and BlackVue, and the DDPai Mini 5 Cloud also supports the feature. More and more brands are expected to come out with Cloud capability which will hopefully make support more accessible.
