Wifi dashcams

Dashcams with Wifi are becoming increasingly popular, probably because almost everyone has a phone or tablet with Wifi connection these days. The handy thing about a dashcam with Wifi is that the recorded images can be viewed directly on the phone or tablet. The images can then be easily shared via social media or email. Most brands even have their own app that allows one-click connection to the dashcam.

With a dashcam with Wi-Fi, it is also possible to easily change the settings. This is especially useful (required) if the dashcam does not have an LCD screen. With some dashcams with Wifi, it is even possible to perform automatic software updates. The dashcam will then download and install the latest firmware itself when it is available.

The most convenient thing about a dashcam with Wifi is that you can view and download the stored images wirelessly. Via your phone or tablet, you simply log in to the Wifi signal that your dashcam transmits. This eliminates the need to remove the SD card from the dashcam - or the entire dashcam from the car - every time you want to view videos. Plus, it's fun to quickly review something noteworthy you've seen on the road.

Download videos and watch them live

Downloaden van videos

The most common function of WiFi on a dashcam is to wirelessly view or transfer the footage to your phone. It is also possible to watch along live with the dashcam, but only within the range of the Wifi signal (5 to 10 metres). To watch along from greater distances you will need to use a Cloud dashcam.

Despite the fact that viewing and especially downloading videos via phone is easy, it can sometimes be faster to still take the SD card out of the camera and transfer footage directly to a computer. Video files are often very large, sometimes up to hundreds of MBs. It can therefore take a long time before you have such a video on your phone. Especially with important videos, we therefore recommend transferring them directly to the computer. You can do this by inserting the SD card into the computer or by connecting the dashcam via USB.

Different apps

Some dashcam brands have their own App, others have to make do with a universal version like RoadCam or KaCam. In either case, they are always available for both iOS and Android. The Apps all have standard features such as the ability to watch along live, review saved footage or change settings. Some Apps, including BlackVue's, have more extensive features such as notifications on parking mode incidents and Cloud options. With a dash cam Wifi GPS, you can then often also view the route travelled.
