A dashcam with front and rear camera - also called 2CH (2 Channel) or Dual dashcam - is a dashcam with two cameras. Buying a dual dashcam with front and rear camera is done to record front and rear. However, the rear camera can also be mounted elsewhere, such as in the cargo hold or towards the blind spot of a truck. A front and rear camera car is also very useful for securing the car while parking, as it records a very large area around the car. The chances of catching vandals or ‘drive-throughs’ are therefore a lot higher than with a standard 1CH dashcam.
The rear camera of a 2CH Dual dashcam is connected to the front dashcam with a cable - usually 5 or 6 metres long - and does not need to be separately connected to the power supply. The front and rear dashcam record simultaneously and the footage is stored together on the SD card in the front dashcam. Sometimes the rear camera of a 2CH Dual dashcam can optionally be connected to the power supply of the car's reversing lights. This creates a dashcam reversing camera and the image from the rear camera is displayed large on the front dashcam when you put the car in reverse gear. So it's ideal to use a 2CH dashcam with front and rear camera as a parking aid. Dashcams with wireless rear camera are not currently made.
